Comparative Study of Mechanical Performance of AlCrSiN Coating Deposited on WC-Co and cBN Hard Substrates

The objective of this study is to explore and compare the mechanical response AlCrSiN coatings deposited on two different substrates, namely, WC-Co cBN. Nano-indentation was used measure hardness elastic modulus coatings, micro-indentation for observing contact damage under Hertzian with monotonic cyclic (fatigue) loads. Microscratch tests were also evaluate strength adhesion between substrates progressive constant loads, respectively. surface damages induced via observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A focused ion beam (FIB) produce a cross-section coating–substrate system in order further detect mode extent failure that induced. results show coating substrate performed better regard than same cBN substrate; attributed lower plasticity as well its less powerful coating.
